Kiowa County Cemetery Project
This project was made possible by the Kiowa County Public Library who obtained a substantial grant from the Colorado History Fund that would allow our county to inventory four of the thirteen historical cemeteries in the county. The initial grant required students from Eads High School to assist the library staff in researching the four cemeteries, making markers for the many unidentified graves, and actually inventorying the grave and tombstone information in order to create a data base of information for researchers, county history buffs, and genealogists. The information was entered into a database and added to this web site so that the entire world can have access to this information. Please feel free to use this information as it has been supplied with the sole purposes of informing interested individuals.
The four cemeteries inventoried in this initial grant are abandoned cemeteries located throughout Kiowa County and are among the oldest in the county. Many of the graves are not identifiable with a tombstone and were identified by using sonar technology provided by the Kiowa County Farm Service Agency and NRS.
